Turns out I just needed a hand, and it came right out. Took 5 minutes with a helper.

This quote above is what I would be looking for. You should be able to pull it out without having to completely drop the tranny. If you have it out far enough to clear the trans input shaft from the pilot bearing and can see the splines, then you should be able to rock the motor forward. It should have play. If you cant rock it forward, it is most likely still hung up on the trans.
Of course we are assuming the motor mounts have been loosened and aren't 'stuck' onto the crossmember for some odd reason. Are you able to get any lift off of the frame or does it just not budge at all?
