Carburetor question/advice
1980 two door Toyota Corolla 1.8 all factory. Hood was missing and it wasn't covered well at all. Did everything I could tried to start it no luck. Got a friend who is a mechanic to come by and check it out. Something in the carburetor isn't opening up he said. Also said the compression seems there but wants to check. He said take the carburetor off take pics so I know step by step how to put it back in. Bring him the carburetor and he will se if he can get it to open and close. Question is what is better see what he can do or see about getting a new or rebuilt one online? Also if you guys think get another one where do you recommend? It's factory not going to be used for racing or anything.
Re: Carburetor question/advice
It depends what you want to do with the car. My thing is what is that thing that does not open or close? The choke or throttle? Before I get into that, maybe its a good thing you have not started it yet. If you think the carb is messed up because of water, have you drained the oil first? If it is the carb you can find them cheap. About $130 or less (rebuilt), But we are all going to tell you to get a new one and upgrade it. Do you know what site you are on!?
A weber 32/36 will cost about $250 or less. I know its not for racing or anything but you can tune it for everything. You will also need a spacer for it $50.
If you want to keep the stock carb I dont even know where to look to find one new. If you do they will be like $400.
Rebuilt or used you can go to ebay or people here might have one. I kept my old stock carb from a car I had before if you cant find one. Just take it off and try to figure out whats not moving. On the other hand, if you mean "stock" as in having 100 hoses connected to it, then yes go weber!

Re: Carburetor question/advice
I thought this site is toyota corollas. Some built for racing some stock that people just like the Toyota corolla. I was the 2nd owner I restored the corolla completely when I got it. I had took out the back seat had 2 15 inch evs and 4 10 inch evs. Put power locks and a vinyl top on with the coach lights as the back windshield is smaller because the vinyl top I had put on. The guy I sold it to just let it sit wouldn't do anything to it. Someone stole the hood broke a door window. Finally the guy was selling it after 5-6 years. The only reason I got it back was I found a guy close who has a basement full of parts. This guy has everything except doors. With help checked the car the motor wasn't blown. I had to change the power wire that goes to the positive battery terminal it was so bad it was falling apart in my hand. I had the starter and alternator rebuilt. I drained the oil ran the Marvin's mystery oil through and also had it in and let it sit in the engine. Then did the oil new and filter. New plugs all that took gas tank off got that cleaned up then tried to start it. I really don't remember what he said was stuck on the carb. I have been trying to put pics up but keeps saying to big even after I edit the pics. I took the pics on my cell. If the site is for racing questions and racing upgrades I'm sorry. I also had another question which was could I change the back drum brakes to the rotors and calipers. If I can how hard is it and Anouilh what does it cost? I am not mechanically inclined but my brother and a few friends are.baldo wrote:It depends what you want to do with the car. My thing is what is that thing that does not open or close? I was just joking about the site dude. Why would somebody buy a car to let it just sit and rot away? Weird! Well if everything is stock then you can try to rebuild it I guess or buy a rebuilt or used one.
As far as the rear end you can try to find an AE86 rear end, it fits and it has lsd also. You can also spend some time in the chassis and suspension section or ask questions there about it. Sounds like you did a lot of work to the car. Cant wait to see it.

Yes I did do a lot it was so pretty. When I saw it I felt like the movie Christine. I have the original title it had 63,000 miles on it I sold it with 67,000. It's raining here tomorrow I will try taking pics again and loading them up. Thanks for the advice I would of never bought it back if I didn't meet this guy who has parts.baldo wrote:I was just joking about the site dude.
