car wont idle?

Post by daannyt »

hello everyone! ive had a TE72 in my backyard for the past 10 years and my current car es250 just died out on me recently..
ive been trying to get the car started
replaced fuel filter, fuel pump, spark plugs & wires cap & rotor i took the carb off briefly to try and clean it due to old gas in the tank ( drained that too)
now when i crank the car it wont idle unless i directly feed it gas or carb cleaner. my next step is to blow out the fuel lines leading from the tank to the engine bay but can anyone offer me some tips?

i was thinking maybe i need the stock carb rebuilt, but im not that great with carbs & dont know of any services or what thats gonna cost me.
or is it even carb related?! any and all input helps!

If you had old gas in the tank you have old gas in the carb. If it turned to gunk you have to rebuild it because the plunger and the gasket will fall apart when you open it. But before you start blowing....... did you unplug the fuel line from the carb and checked that you are getting fuel? Is there gas in the sight glass, does it move? Needle might be stuck.
Rebuilding is not that hard and the kits are cheap. If anything get the kit and replace the gaskets and the plunger, but be carefull because I think the float is under the gasket. So when you take all the screws out DONT PULL IT HARD. Make sure the gasket comes up with the top part or break it (the gasket  ) were the float is so you can pull the top off. So pull apart, clean, replace gaskets and plunger.

makes sense.. i replaced the fuel pump and checked directly from the fuel pump to see gas coming out. but to be honest im not 100% sure if im taking the line from the fuel pump to the carb.. or its just the fact it needs to be rebuilt. no fuel in the bowl/ sight glass.
if i cant have anyone do it which id perfer i dont trust me self lol worst comes to worst ill give it a crack, no pun intended lol. thanks for the advice you guys!
if california wasnt so smog crazy id love to just save fund for ITB's lol
