w series trans.
I am sure there was much more info on the old site. just thought this would be a good start for us to regroup.
Does anyone have any experience with the fitment of the w series trans in the early "toy" rolla's? Such as my te27. I have some "big" stuff planned and after some research it sounds like this would be the tranny for me.

Is there a w58 tranny better than another to install in a TE72. Trying to avoid having to install a R154 tail. I can get my hands on a w58 off an 81 supra.

Anybody? Didn't some celicas com with an iron gearbox or something? Maybe not iron but there was something special about it.

La w55 is aluminum y la w58 tiene the middle plate en steel y the gear ratio is a bit different and I think they both share the same shifter plate so to slide it back u gonna have to get the plate out of the 154''' but that's a piece of cake to do just remember you need the 3 parts'''

For some reason I thought that the early celicas (74-77 or so) fit by just swapping the bellhousings and were strong as hell. I am going to find out with a guy I know to verify. I have R154 tranny's but I would just hate to take the tail housings off them if I don't need to. Its for a street car maybe una pela here and there.

Not true, there are different versions of the W58 as well as the W55-59 yes gear ratios are a little different from the truck ones and the car ones!toyotero2dend wrote:La w55 is aluminum y la w58 tiene the middle plate en steel y the gear ratio is a bit different and I think they both share the same shifter plate so to slide it back u gonna have to get the plate out of the 154''' but that's a piece of cake to do just remember you need the 3 parts'''

I need help with this. A W58 fell in my lap today. I plan to replace my A40 slushbox with it. I have started to put in the 3rd pedal. Crossmember will be easy. What do I do for a bellhousing? adapter? clutch system?
