Make sure you got the one you want as there are 2 kind of covers gasketwise, one that uses a O-ring type gasket IMO the best one and the one that uses the cork type gasket very leak prone one, do your homework and good luck finding the one you want!

I notice I get more leaks when I dont match the valve cover to the head especially in the spark plug well. The heads are shaped slightly different on 81/82.

I always run 71/72 because they are the nicest in my opinion and 81/82 are the ugliest. I just change my gaskets more often because I have a 81/82 head.

I use rubber gaskets on both valve covers its not like its 1996 the 81 82 style gets brittle faster

I also use the rubber one and I get no leaks,,got to tighten the nuts lil by lil not all at once front ,back,center,,,back,front ,center ;)
