I will be swapping this:

into this:

I will document each step as I go along. The firewall has been notched 4" and the section has been boxed:

The original shifter has also been relocated to suit the R154

The car is plauged with a little rust so progress will be slow.

Before:

After:

Plans include:

rear-mounted radiator
3" SS exhaust
8.8 rear
4 link
T70 turbo
30 x 12 x 3 I/C mounted behind grill
expansion tank
modified oilpan
custom catch can
shaved bay
bigger injectors (not decided which yet)
aftermarket ecu (not decided which yet)
fuel cell ans external F/P
swirl pot

All welding and fabrication will be done by me.

Not much to report at this time but the more I fix the more rust we uncover. The rocker panels are shot! Whoever did the repair before used a thin galvanized material and it 's just too soft. They also used a hell of a lot of black cement flashing to fill the rust spots and gaps. So I'm cutting out the inner rockers and replacing them with 18ga sheet metal and reinforcing with 1 x 2 x 1/16 square tubing. There is also a lot of rust next to the spring perches so I don't know what my options are here. I looked at this lower crossmember from Jegs as an alternative.:

Here are some pics of the rust:

I can't wait till its done!

My inspiration for this was this little bugger:

Just a little update! Installed the motor to check clearances and to mock up the I/C

The intercooler end tank had to be modified from a standard straight-end setup to fit.

Cut out the spare tire tub an surrounding sheet metal:

Added 1"X2"X1/16" square tubing for reinforcements and radiator mount.

Combined a generic catch can and expansion tank to make this unit:

The rust is all taken care of (pics to follow)

What are your plans with the engine. 550cc injectors, 1uzfe AFM and stock ecu will yield lots of power for that little bugger (450 to wheels) and run like stock with no issues. Don't forget to shave the block and head for a metal headgasket and arp bolts torqued to conservative 75-80 ft lbs. Have Fun

awesome project...its a good thing you do your own welding, I would hate to see what someone will charge to weld all that....Great job on the tunnel....

The motor has pistons and rods with ARP's and came out of a running car. Cams maybe later on. No headwork that I know of. The new intake has a provision for the cold air injector but it is too big for the stock one. I may have to weld in a plate and re-drill to fit the stocker. The 1UZFE AFM is a great idea. Right now I'm looking into an AEM stand alone. 450hp in that little car, that will be a blast.
