Actually the mazda can be filled by the shifter but it will take too long as the space for the thick fluid is very small.

There's no hell way to do that don't ask me why

The shaft is solid and sealed what slide in the tube and the gravity not gone work

What is sealed is the outer sleeve in front and in the back, but the shifter rod itself runs free inside it, it is very close but yeah it does go down thru it, i have done it before, but i wont do it again, it takes too long!

Thanks for all the responses, guys, but I think we might have a different issue at hand. After talking to an expert (my dad) it looks like it might be the throw out bearing. Cheap part, gobs of labor. Has any one got any experience on DIY-ing the throw out bearing replacement? I don't need a new clutch and I am getting some crazy estimates on having it done by a pro.

That being said, when I get work estimates ranging from $500-$1000, I look at selling the car to someone with more love (read: money + time) to put into the car than I do.

Its only that much because they have to drop the tranny. You can actually pick up the tranny by yourself, well, most of us. If you have time you can have it done in a day. If your dad is a mechanic should not take that long. If you are going to sell it what does it look like?
I dont know where you live, but 1000 to do that sounds like they are trying to do you! Do you have any friends to help you out that work on cars? If thats all you are doing to it its not that hard.

If my dad didn't live in ATL and I had a lift, it might be a good weekend project. Dropping a transmission while laying my back and working alone with 6" of clearance sounds like a pile of mistakes waiting to happen. I know when I am in over my head.

The car, as of today is for sale. It has only 77K miles on it and has a new OEM carb, exhaust system, new ignition system and two sets of wheels and tires. The stock set of steelies have tires with about 75% tread left and come with the spoke hubcaps. The other set is four Celica Supra aluminum four spoke wheels with four brand new Falken Ziex tires. Those have not even seen road yet. The driver's seat has a cover of sorts, but the rest of the interior looks like a time capsule. This car looks to have been (and is currently) garage-kept.

I am located on the Gulf Coast, near I-10.

My brother and I did a clutch job in an 1 hour and 15 minutes with a car lift. Using jack stands will take a little longer but the throw out bearing is even easier than the clutch. Maintenance is inevitable with any car.

Don't sell the car because of a throw out bearing,, it's not a big job to do , you need 4 jack stands and a low profile floor jack,,and a friend to give you a hand,,I've done this by myself a few times , not a big job
