starting issue
Not sure whatsup but when i turn the key to start cranking over the motor it feels like it doesn't have enough power and i need to hold the key until the cranking sort of picks up speed, then it will start fine. Any idea what causes this? It started after i put back the head and IN&EX manifolds

timing too advanced, retime it
Re: starting issue
How would it have changed after i put on the head? I thought it might have evil do with compression? But i put a new cylinder head gasket and stories to spec. It used to fire right up after it turned over once or twice?

Re: starting issue
So you didnt remove the distributor then? Is it clicking? Checked the clearance for the rockers, did you cut the head? Checked the battery and all the starter cables?
Re: starting issue
Maybe the battery have low power try to charge it or jump start it see what happen !
If you didnt moved the dizz i would said battery problem

Re: starting issue
Yeah i left dizzy installed. Gonna check voltage on battery, load test and maybe even voltage drop just to make sure. Out of curiosity do they make an optima red/blue/yellow top sized for 3tc?

Re: starting issue
Still sounds like timing to me. Takes 5 mins to check timing, if you dont own a gun , you should. Buy a dial back if you dont have one so you can check total, initial is only good if your dizzy is 100% perfect which is rarely the case after 30 years.
Re: starting issue
Im thinking its the starter
