WTB TE72 higher output alternator

Post by Nasi8one »

Looking to replace the stock head unit, 4" speakers and add 6x9s to the rear of my 1982 Corolla wagon. Want to replace stock 50(?) Amp alternator with something with a higher output. If anyone has one stored, or knows of a direct bolt on, please let me know. Would be good info to know what other year, make, and model alternators fit TE72s. Thank you in advance.

No, my current alternator is externally regulated. Headlights and two 6x9s drained my battery last night. Ive been reading and searching, and all ive found is someone recommending to use a RX7 alt. But it did not mention what year. I also saw BRD has racing alternators (doesnt give amps), but im wondering if having a racing alternator has any negative impact on a stock car. I guess it doesnt hurt to give them a call.

Look at the years and images and see if you can find your required amp output with stock OEMs. If Not I will see what racing alternators might fit and post later today.

Thank you for the link! Have been searching on it, and comparing mounting brackets and holes as best as i can. All the ones that seem to match up, end up being around the same amp output as stock (around 55-60). The ones ive found to have higher amps, use a different pully than stock. Would that be able to be swapped out for the OEM pully?

This RX7 alt. Is the closest ive found on ebay which seem to have the same position mounting holes. Any chance this would work with minimal modifications? Not sure what the rules are on links, so sorry if they arent allowed and will delete if needed.
