HELP car won't start...again.

Post by Cochese35 »

I got the car running a week ago but noticed it had
a puncture in the top radiator hose. I didn't want
it overheating so I replaced it, but when I did,
a small amount of antifreeze leaked. I tried turning
it on after and no crank. I short circuited it directly
to the starter and it would crank but wouldn't turn over.
I checked the wire to the ignition and it seems to have current.
The battery was recently replaced and the headlights turn on but
the dash lights don't. Throw me a bone guys. I'm trying to get
it running so I can fix the rest this week.

if its getting spark, fuel and air. it should start. as long as you have enough power to crank the starter.

how much voltage is your battery? dude 3tc have like no electricals so its only a matter of a few things..

get it to crank over like normal first off. then lets go from there..

do you have proper ground connections? all your cables are proper?

So I checked the fuse box, all fuses were fine. Neither the ignition nor the interior
lights or work, not even the roof light. Headlights and horn do work, however.
I tried removing the dash cluster to check the wires but that just triggered the
left signal to stay on continuously (w/o the signal handle being flipped) so I removed
the flasher relay. I printed out a diagram of the electricals but I honestly have no clue
how to read it as they were never my strong point.

for the diagram. just take different colors and trace each wire individually. just follow what goes to where thats all it is. and a pinout location usually..

Do the windshield wipers or the heater turn on? I was looking at the diagram for the 78 model (latest diagram I have), and the engine, cluster, wipers and heater all seem to come in on a Black wire with yellow stripe to it, from the ignitor. Maybe the anti-freeze has shorted that wire. I'd make sure all the wires are dry.

Check behind the kick panel on the driver side , there should be another box there with fuses & relays. , if I'm not mistaken I know the starlet & the .8 has it

Not sure what model rolla you have. Take the plastic cover off the steering column. Follow the wires coming out of the ignition switch and signal switch all the way down the column. They should go off into different connectors somewhere under the dash. Make sure they are clean and are completely fastened. I've Been having crazy electrical issues with my te27, then the other day the car wouldn't start and signals wouldn't flash. Then I realized I forgot to reconnect the wires coming from the ignition switch

Oops didn't realize you said you had power to the wire... The small amount of coolant may have shorted a bare wire. I might have a diagram I could scan and post on here if you need one. Depending on your car.

I've checked the starter and it's good. I'll probably check to where the ignition wire leads to and hopefully find the issue. A friend of
mine says it might be the igniter or the pickup coil. Which one do you guys think it is?
