SR20DET Manifold to T-engines

Post by chesmari »

Has anyone ever considered getting or have done SR20DET Turbo manifold, chop off the flange and weld a T-series exhaust flange onto it? Seems very identical in spacing. Plenty of inexpensive SR20 manifolds out there, just find a shop that TIG welds and have a budget turbo manifold with several of styles to choose from.

It just seems that only have a few shops offer manifolds for the T-series.

Sounds like a good idea...I have a factor tube manifold from a Ford Focus I'm going to mod but if the spacing is too far off I may find an sr20 one and take a look at it

As a follow up, saw this post in Toymods:

Hi Steeko,
Since I am currently running an SR20 topmount ebay stainless manifold and previously a factory cast SR20 manifold on my 3T I'll jump in!

Port spacing is 'almost' identical between the SR20 and the 3T motors.
The outside two holes on an SR20 manifold line up with the Toyota positions.
A factory SR20 lowmount manifold fouls the engine mount and possibly the starter so flipping it for topmount is best.
Either aftermarket topmount stainless or flipped factory SR20 manifold it is best to make a spacer/adapter plate due to larger port diameter of the SR20 item.
It took me say 3 hours to make the adapter plate from 12mm mild steel with hand drill, die grinder, and thread tap (only for flipped factory mani).
When mounting the stainless manifold I drilled and slotted the head flange to use the toyota pattern. SR20 uses 2 bolts per runner while toyota shares some.

Cheers,
Jason
