2tg engine vs 3tc

Post by njccmd2002 »

its not fair, because one is DOHC and the other is OHV. but which one would you choose for a TE31?

but if you are not looking for performace, but rather a good resto build,

would a 2tg satisfy the forum members, reason is i can get a 2tg for fairly decent price.. low miles. Im not going to go performance. and they have a little if not the same HP. I already have 3tc, but a 2tg is way cooler....

i think ill do it.. and put the 3tc in a corner...

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay? These come up so infrequently I don't know what is cheap and what isn't. reason i'm asking is because I could be buying one pretty soon.. Hopefully :D

i paid 1100 plus shipping.

It really depends on the market you are on. Here on the east coast, they dont pop in craigslist as they do in california. In aussie they consider the 18rg and the 2tg dinosaur technology, and u can find them in every corner.

you pay as much as youre willing. They are rare in the us, more than the 18rg. Ive seen more 18rg for sale than 2tg. (and now i have both!!!).

This particular engine has been rebuilt and has less than 10k miles after rebuilt, it looked clean in pics, but its a gamble I took

I spent same on the 18rg, plus shipping, but the 2tg appears to be in better shape.

To mention, it comes with flywheel, dual carbs, and exhaust. no alt or compressor. I have seen bare blocks for the same price. hell just the sidedraft alone sells for 200 bucks, and the dual carbs for 300 - 500. so i think i got something good...
