I have a 1987 Merkur XR4ti (German Ford) turbo with a 2.3L turbo that I've had around for a couple of years now. My intention was to make this a daily driver, but ended up getting a truck so the Merkur pretty much sits in the drive way. I've bought a few parts with the intention of restoring it, but haven't put the parts on it. Anyway, as far as performance parts are concerned, I've installed an intercooler with mitsubishi 1G bov, boost controller, and exhaust. The car runs ok, but sometimes hesitates a bit and has some suspension problems. I'm hoping that I get it running better and drive it around more often. The car looks cool (that's my opinion :D ) with the bi-wing spoiler that is almost rarely seen on other cars. I'll put up some more pics later.

Whenever I have my 1.8 efi swap in order, I might be looking to buy one of these. They're just so unique and bad ass. But I wish we got the cosworth version though.

Those cars are definitely nice to drive with the right mods. A lot of car for the money. Any pictures :D

Yes, same engine however the svo made a bit more power because of a larger vam and more aggressive ecu.

I have been doing a little research on these ever since I saw this thread... Merkurs are kinda cool! who knew there was an irs, turbo charged, semi luxurious sporty car made by ford in the 80s! Best of all they seem to be really cheap still.. cheaper than mustangs anyway. If I cant get my corolla ready in time for college I am seriously considering buying one of these ;)

Muchas gracias Boblook for offering! If you want ot make big bucks on Merkur sites get some Cosworth parts. They are insanely priced here in the states. Anything from a turbo cosworth compressor, LSD differential or body kits are expensive! The original 4x4 Sierra 2.0 Cosworth turbo is a BEAST!!!! Too bad we got the pinto Lima 2.3 single OHC. And yes I did see a vid of Eville's 2.3 megasquirt turbo powered RX7. If anything these 2.3's make torque.
